Majd al-Dīn Aḥmad al-Ghazālī was born in Ṭūs, probably in 452 or 453 AH. Like his brother, Abū Ḥāmid Muḥammad al-Ghazālī, he first studied jurisprudence but was interested in Sufism and became a famous preacher. Aḥmad al-Ghazālī migrated to Baghdād and studied in al-Madrasah al-Niẓāmīyah. His most important students were Ibn Shahrāshūb and ‘Abd al-Wāḥid ibn Muḥammad al-Āmidī. al-Ghazālī died in Qazwīn in 520 AH and was buried in Aḥmadīyah.
