Raḍī al-Dīn Abū l-Faḍāʾil al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan b. Ḥaydar b. ʿAlī b. Ismāʿīl al-Qurashī al-ʿAdawi al-ʿUmarī, known as al-Ṣaghānī (Ṣāghānī), was a linguist and Hadith transmitter active during the 6th/12th and 7th/13th centuries. He was born in Lahore in 577/1181. His name indicates roots in the province of Chaghaniyan. Al-Ṣaghānī studied at Ghazni with his father and Niẓām al-Dīn Marghīnānī. Following his studies at Ghazni, Ṣaghānī traveled to Mecca, Medina, Aden, and Mogadishu for further education. By 615/1218 Ṣaghānī arrived in Baghdad seeking employment. In 617/1220 he was sent to India by the Caliph al-Nāṣir (d. 622/1225), returning in 624/1226 to Baghdad. He was sent to India again that year by the Caliph al-Mustanṣir (d. 656/1258). In 630/1232, Ṣaghānī returned to Aden, where he lived for seven years until traveling to Baghdad in 627/1239. In Baghdad, he taught at the Marzubāniyya lodge until moving to the Tutushiyya lodge in 640/1242. He belonged to the Ḥanafī legal guild. Ṣaghānī passed away in Baghdad in 650/1252. He is buried in Mecca.
