al-Jūzjānī was a Persian physician and astronomer active in the 11th century. We know very little about him apart from broad biographical strokes. He is most famous as a pupil, commentator, and critic of Ibn Sīnā, whose work he published and biography he wrote. He moved to Jurjān, where he became a jurist. It was there he met Ibn Sīnā in 1012. He travelled with his teacher to othe parts of the Persian-speaking world, such as Rayy, Hamadan and Isfahan, where he worked for some time. He was a key assistant to Ibn Sīnā in the creation of his own works, commented on many of them, as well as translating them from Arabic to Persian. He died probably in the 1030s. His primary original work, Kitāb Kayfiyyat tarkīb al-aflāk, does not survive, though his own and others’ summaries of it are extant.
