    Notes Nāṣir ibn ʻAbd al Sayyid al-Muṭarrizī, 1144-1213 was a Ḥanafī-Muʿtazilī scholar who wrote primary on language and literature. He was born in al-Jurjāniyya (Khwarazm) in 538 AH (1144-5). his studies first with his father, and then with Abū al-Muʾayyad al-Muwaffaq, d. 1172, the pupil of the highly acclaimed scholar Allāh Maḥmūd ibn ʿUmar Zamakhsharī, d. 1144. al- Muṭarrizī wrote several books detailing different aspects of Arabic rhetoric and grammar, such as a compendium of Arabic grammar titled al-Miṣbāḥ fī l-naḥw, and a popular Arabic lexicon of terms from the fields of jurisprudence and prophetic tradition, titled al-Mughrab fī tartīb al-muʿrab.     Abū l-Fatḥ Nāṣir al-Dīn b. ʿAbd al-Sayyid Abī l-Makārim b. ʿAlī Khwārazmī al-Ḥanafī, known as Muṭarrizī, was a scholar active during the 6th/12th and 7th/13th centuries. He was born in 538/1144 in Urgench. He studied under various teachers, including his father ʿAbd al-Sayyid, Abū l-Muʾayyad al-Muwaffaq b. Aḥmad Makkī (d. 568/1162) (the pupil of the highly acclaimed scholar Jār Allāh Maḥmūd ibn ʿUmar Zamakhsharī), and Muḥammad b. Abī l-Qāsim al-Baqqālī (d. 562/1167). Muṭarrizī traveled for his studies and belonged to the Ḥanafī legal guild, authoring several books detailing different aspects of Arabic rhetoric and grammar. In 601/1205, Muṭarrizī left for Hajj and met with scholars in Baghdad. He passed away in his homeland in Jumādā al-Awwal 610/1213.
